A private tour is run exclusively for you — just you and those with whom you choose to share this journey. You will have your own professional tour director and driver at your service during your stay. It translates into greater flexibility, better comfort and personalised service so you can experience New Zealand the way you have always dreamt of it.
Our small group tour has an average size of about ten, allowing you to travel with like-minded travellers, and experience each destination in a meaningful way. It is designed to see the highlights of each place with enough downtime to relax, reflect and soak up the atmosphere. The advantage of joining a small group is that the conversations can be longer and the connections deeper.
Many tours to New Zealand sell out quickly, so we recommend booking as soon as you know you can travel. Accommodation is scarce in some parts of the country. It is not unusual for whole towns to sell out of decent housing, especially during summer. The New Zealand border is opening for everyone from 11:59 pm Sunday 31 July 2022, so it’s best to secure your trip as early as possible.
New Zealand is beautiful in every season. But the best time to come depends on what you would like to do.
SUMMER (DEC, JAN, FEB)
Expect long warm days perfect for swimming, kayaking, biking, and hiking. You’ll get plenty of time to enjoy the outdoors because it doesn’t get dark until 9 pm.
AUTUMN (MAR, APR, MAY)
While temperatures are slightly more relaxed than in summer, the weather can be excellent. It is possible to swim in some places until April. The new season brings spectacular colour to every New Zealand region, especially Central Otago and Hawke’s Bay, known for their autumn splendour.
WINTER (JUN, JUL, AUG)
New Zealand’s winter brings colder weather to be much of the country and more rain to most areas on the North Island. Mountain ranges in both islands become snow-covered, providing beautiful vistas and excellent skiing.
While the South Island has cooler winter temperatures, some island areas experience little rainfall in winter, so this is an excellent time to visit glaciers, mountains, and other areas of scenic beauty.
SPRING (SEP, OCT, NOV)
Spring is a great time to visit as the days are beginning to warm up, but the nights are still crisp and cool. During spring, blossoms and other new growth burst throughout the country, and newborn lambs frolic in the fields just before dusk.
New Zealand is reasonably informal, and few places insist on strict dress codes. If you’re spending time in one of the big cities, it pays to bring a tidier outfit for an evening out. Otherwise, comfort and practicality are essential when choosing clothing for your visit. Layers are crucial – as the weather can change rapidly.
Ensure you pack a rain jacket. Wind and rainproof jackets are essential to have when travelling here. As mentioned, the weather in New Zealand is changeable, even at the height of summer. If you’re heading to Fiordland National Park or the West Coast, be prepared for a high chance of rain. These are among the wettest places on earth, which makes them unique.
Bring sturdy shoes for walking. All walking tracks and paths are well marked and maintained, so comfortable walking shoes or sneakers are ok. However, hiking boots are a good idea if you plan to venture into the wilderness or plan to do longer hikes.
Protect yourself from the sun. The UV levels are extreme in New Zealand so bring a hat and at least 50 SPF Sunscreen.
The tours are designed for travellers in their thirties and upwards; however, we can customise the trip for any age. Do keep in mind that some optional activities have age restrictions or require a reasonable fitness level. Talk to us about any concerns you may have.
New Zealand cities and towns have excellent water supplies; in most cases, tap water is fresh and safe to drink. However, water from rivers and lakes should be boiled, chemically treated or filtered before drinking to avoid stomach upsets.
We know the best places in each town and city for different budgets and tastes, and we will point these out on the way to each location. An average meal in New Zealand should cost around $17-35 per person when dining out.
You can use all major credit cards here in New Zealand. If your credit card has a PIN, you can withdraw cash from automatic teller machines (ATMs) at banks and shopping centres throughout the country.
If you had a great time during your tour and would like to express that to your tour director, a tip is appreciated.
Electricity is supplied throughout New Zealand at 230/240 volts (50 hertz). Most hotels and motels only provide 110 volt AC sockets (rated at 20 watts) for electric razors.
An adapter/converter is necessary for all other equipment unless the item has a multi-voltage option. New Zealand power plugs have two flat pins in a V shape with a grounding pin.
Tip: If you have several devices, bring a power extension board from home and plug it into your travel adapter so you can run them all simultaneously.
You can find visa and immigration information for visiting New Zealand here: Visa & Immigration Information. Proxee Tours NZ does not arrange visas or other paperwork to enter New Zealand. Please ensure that you have put in all necessary paperwork for your visit.
